Zero Pests | Spider Management

Spider Management

Using New Zealand manufactured products we can effectively and safely manage the spider population around your home.

There are about 2,500 kinds of spiders in New Zealand with most of them being harmless to people. Although some believe all spiders are to be avoided there are only three species that should be avoided –Katipo, Redback and White-tailed spiders. Of the harmful spiders, the white-tailed is the one you will likely encounter here in Canterbury. It can give a painful bite producing swelling, redness and itching but there is usually no long term effect. All the other spiders are just a plain nuisance by producing unsightly webs and they also provide a food source for white-tailed spiders. To keep your environment pleasant you may need to evict these unwanted tenants.

Zero Pests | Fly Management

Fly Management

Using New Zealand manufactured products we can effectively and safely manage the flies invading your home.

Flies are constantly annoying creatures that invade our living habitats bringing diseases with them. Flies pick up pathogens with their legs and mouths from sources such as decaying plant matter, faeces and animal corpses. They distribute them onto our food and household surfaces because they regurgitate and excrete whenever and wherever they come to rest.  It is thought that flies transmit up to some 65 diseases.

Wasps are spreading throughout the country and having a negative impact on the New Zealand environment. Bees are being decimated by wasps. They are reducing insect food sources of Native birds and animals bringing about a serious ecological imbalance. Symptoms of allergic reaction to wasp stings can include swelling to the face, lips, or throat. There can be the appearance of hives or itching on other areas of the body away from the site of the sting(s) sometimes accompanied by breathing difficulties.

Ants. At this time there are 40 confirmed species of ants in New Zealand. Of these, 11 are native to New Zealand. The other 29 species have been accidentally introduced by people. Traditionally ants haven’t really been a problem in the Canterbury area but that is changing with the invasion of Darwin ants and Argentine ants.  Argentine ants are said by the World Conservation Union to be one of the world's worst invasive species.

Zero Pests | Rodent Management

Rodent Management

Rodents in New Zealand, particularly rats, prey on native animals often declining a population or even causing extinction. There are currently four known species of rodents in NZ. They are the Kiore (a rat once widespread but now confined to Fiordland and a number of offshore islands), the Norway rat (common in urban areas), the ship rat (now the most widespread rat in NZ) and the house mouse (common throughout NZ). Disease laden rats and mice are obviously unwanted guests in human habitats as they leave their droppings and urine behind creating an unhealthy environment.
